We stayed at the Arbutus Hotel in early October while on a golf vacation with another couple. We were greeted by a very friendly staff, offering to send up tea or coffee to the room while we got settled in. The rooms were spacious and though not fancy, very comfortable. All of the staff from front desk to Betty in the breakfast room went out of their way to accomodate us. From restaurant suggestions, all of which were terrific, to directions to the various courses, they were top notch. Betty, especially, was welcoming and friendly. Definately would go back!!!

On October 11 and 12, my tour group, MKL tours stayed at the Arbutus Hotel. We were warmly welcomed into the hotel and given tea, coffee and also homemade gingerbread, by a lovely lady named Betty. The rooms were large and spacious in comparasion to other rooms we had, with a large bathroom. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the large Irish breakfast was excellent. I also had the French toast on one occasion, and found it to be delicious. The entire staff was very attentive, and could not do enough for us. I would definitely recommend this hotel to travelers to Killarney.

We very much enjoyed our two nights at the Arbutus Hotel. A beautiful hotel with an interesting history, and great Celtic decor. We were warmly welcomed by Betty, and refreshed after a very long day driving but the fresh tea, coffee and homemade gingerbread. The room was a delight, larger than most rooms we have had in Europe or the UK. Breakfast was excellent-the french toast particularly. We needed to leave early on our last morning and were well accommodated.

My husband and I recently stayed for the fourth time at the Arbutus Hotel in Killarney. We really enjoy the atmosphere of this family run hotel. We also really like the Celtic Deco style of furniture and fittings throughout the hotel, such a refreshing change from the modern style of many hotels. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, with excellent en suite facilities. We are very impressed with all the staff, who always make us feel so welcome and whose service is excellent. The welcome is always warm and friendly by whoever is on the front desk when we arrive, and it is always good to be welcomed back by, Sean, Betty, Michelle and Ina. Betty's service in the dining room is really first class. We have met other staff, too, whose names we do not know, but all have a friendly greeting for us. Sadly, we never get to meet the chef to thank him personally for the delicious breakfasts and excellent evening meals. We would certainly recommend this excellent hotel to those who are looking for a very comfortable stay in the centre of Killarney, within walking distance of places of interest in the town, with comfortable bedrooms, cosy lounges in which to relax, delicious meals and the personal touch of staff who do their best to make you feel welcome. We would not stay anywhere else in Killarney, and we will certainly be back.

Stayed in this Hotel for three nights last week which was one of the most pleasant experiences I have had in any hotel. The location is great right in the centre, decor is charming and welcoming, the breakfast menu was the best I have ever had and the staff were so friendly and helpful especially Betty nothing was a problem for them. Would have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone, will definitely be going back.
Well done the Arbutus Hotel you sure know how to look after your guests.

The Arbutus Hotel is a wonderplace to stay. The location was great and the rooms very nice. Michelle was gracious, offering us coffee and tea at check in and answering all our our questions about the area. We were greeted each morning at breakfast by Betty. She is both warm and friendly and made us feel like special guests. We would most definately stay at the Arbutus again if we have the opportunity to visit Irerland again.

Wonderful location for discovering Killarney and the surrounding areas. Our family spent 2 nights at the Arbutus hotel and enjoyed our stay. The full Irish breakfast with delish and they were able to accommodate our group of 7 people. The person at the front desk gave us recommendations for restaurants and what we should visit while in the area. We would stay at the Arbutus again.

We stayed 3 days here and found the Arbutus to be a perfect choice. We wanted to stay in a more traditional hotel with great Irish charm rather than someplace sterile and generic. We were not disappointed and found exactly what we were looking for at the Arbutus. This hotel is centrally located within walking distance to shopping, pubs, restaurants and the train station. We consistently encountered friendly, warm and helpful people at reception. The full breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room and everything we had was absolutely delicious. One of the many goodies i enjoyed were the fresh baked mini scones. The staff in the dining room were outstanding, especially Betty and another lovely lady who were so delightful and attentive! Buckley's bar in the hotel is a cozy, friendly pub with traditional live music and a very nice selection of Irish brews and fine Irish wiskeys, It was nice on a rainy evening to spend time there and just walk up to our spacious, comfortable room. Thanks again to everyone at the Arbutus .We hope to return here again in the near future.

3 October 2011/ Trip Type: Family
Where to begin? Everyone at the Arbutus Hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. They answered our many questions happily and knowledgeably. The rooms were spacious and clean. We asked for extra towels and they were provided right away. The front desk gave us a street map of Killarney which was very helpful. The dining staff was also very accommodating, providing us with much needed morning coffee and making suggestions on what we may enjoy that morning for breakfast. The hotel is centrally located and you can walk anywhere in town from there. After a night out enjoying the local flavor, it's nice to know that your bed is so close by. If you don't feel like going very far or the weather isn't especially nice and you want to stay close by, they have a bar and restaurant attached to the hotel which serves a nice meal and pours a very tasty pint (or two, three, four or more). Speaking of beds, they were really comfortable and the morning wake up calls were greatly appreciated. In case you were wondering, I would highly recommend the Arbutus Hotel if you are traveling to Killarney. They will remain on our list of places to stay when we return to Ireland.

We loved this hotel. It has a wonderful feel of times past and is beautifully and carefully decorated to support that ambiance. The location is outstanding for easy access to all that Killarney has to offer.
We enjoyed the Irish breakfast each morning and particularly the kindness of Betty who made sure that we had all that we could want. I honestly think they are the best scones in all of Ireland.
Would not hesitate to recommend this warm, family run hotel to anyone visiting this part of Ireland.

I have no hesitation recommending this hotel, it's friendly, clean and the food is excellent. In fact I was offered the recipes for three of their specialities - soda bread, gingerbread and scones. Haven't tried them yet but if they taste anything like the ones I had there, I'm in for a treat. Conveniently situated close to the centre of town, the rooms are spacious, traditionally decorated and ours was quiet, despite it being the night of the homecoming of the Kerry Football Team! All in all a very good experience.

From the moment we arrived when Laura came out to help us in with our bags and was so lovely and accomodating checking us in and helping us with our queries. To the fabulous Betty at dinner and breakfast and charming Michelle in reception also bending over backwards to help us.
This hotel is a one off - never had we experienced such outstanding customer care, other hoteliers would do well to come and stay here and learn what real customer service is. Staying in hotels isn't cheap but when all the staff in a hotel make such a combined effort to provide an exceptional level of service you really do feel like you have spent your money well.
Well done you are an example to any other hotel!

This hotel was perfect for our stay. They were very accomoadating with our schedule for tee times. The breakfast was included and they opened early to work around our tee times. Ms Betty was awesome and made sure everything was great. The breakfast was awesome!!! The staff was great and seemed to know everyone in our group by first name. The location is in the heart of the city and is close to shopping and eateries on the same street. The hotel is older, but it brings a very authentic feel to the establishment. It is very clean and comfortable. Be sure to specify that you want a room for wireless internet. The staff is amazing, nice and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

A small, intimate, family-run hotel. We were delighted to get accommodation in the centre of Killarney and we were surprised with the personal and excellent service that we received from all staff at the hotel. Betty, the waitress, at our breakfast serving was so patient and helpful and also, for a major change, everything was freshly cooked and the maple syrup was real! We stayed for two nights and used three bedrooms, all of which were of a high standard.

We were a group of friends walking the Kerry Way. Our first night was booked at the Arbutus but many of us got seriously delayed by flight cancellations. The hotel gave us a great welcome when we finally arrived and keep the dining room open for dinner. We loved this hotel. It is very comfortable and the hospitality is superb. Try the Irish Stew, it's delicious. Our rooms were very comfortable, the breakfast superb and carefully served by the tireless Betty who had stayed on to look after us at the late dinner. The picnic lunch they prepared was the best of our 8 day trip. Totally recommended.

Four of us (2 couples) stayed at the Arbutus Hotel in Killarney for three nights from 26th to 29th June 2011. The hotel has an olde world charm and is family owned. We were very impressed by the friendliness of the reception and dining room staff who genuinely tried to help us during our stay. We were even offered complimentary tea and scones when we checked into the hotel. The following morning, they offered to prepare packed lunches for us to take on our tour of the "Ring of Kerry".
The rooms were spacious and bright. The food was excellent with both meat and fish dishes reasonably priced.
.
We were also surprised and delighted to be questioned several times by a charming elderly lady about our stay and how we were being treated in the hotel. She was one of the Owners of the hotel which has been in her family for several generations. She still takes a keen interest in what is happening in the hotel.
The hotel is centrally located and is a perfect base for touring Cork and Kerry as well as being within walking distance of the many shops, restaurants and pubs in the town itself.

Location is perfect, you are right in the town. When we wanted to go further reception would have a taxi within minutes. Happiness exudes from all those that look after you at this peaceful hotel! It began with a very prompt email response from Michelle, when I enquired about parking. We were immediately treated to coffee, scones and ginger bread in the lounge on our arrival, as we had driven from Kerry Airport at a very early hour (Due to a certain air carrier's interesting timetable out of London!).
Our room was made available by 11am and was a wonder to behold, as if from an earlier time. A king size double bed filled one half of the suite, and through an arch we were amazed to find a chaise lounge, two arm chairs with table and also a writing table and chair. All this beautiful antique furniture was finished in an opulent golden fabric to compliment the ruby red carpet. The large bathroom contained a walk-in shower cubical in addition to the bath - all this was most unexpected for the modest price for bed and breakfast - four nights to celebrate my wife's birthday.
I would like to compliment Betty for her kind attention at breakfast each morning as she greeted us from room 229 and presented us with a wonderful range of food in the restaurant - the antidote to the previous evening's Guinness!
We were recommended to visit the Arbutus Hotel by our son, who is well traveled on business and we were not disappointed - nor will you be, to be sure.

We spent three nights at the Arbutus as part of a family trip to Ireland. The hotel is a family-owned property located in the very convenient center of Killarney Town within walking distance to the train and bus stations.
The rooms are clean and spacious. We had a lovely family room with a double bed and two single beds in a separate alcove.
The staff are superb. They provided us with lots of information on activities in Killarney and also were very responsive to special requests such as finding a place on their property to store a bike overnight.
The included breakfast was delicious. It consisted of a continental buffet with freshly baked scones and gingerbread and an extensive cooked to order menu. We were even able to get an early breakfast on our last day so we could catch an early train.
We would highly recommend the Arbutus.

Just returned from a fantastic trip to Killarney and from the wonderful Arbutus Hotel where we could not have been made feel more welcome, from the delightful Laura on reception who hauled coffee to our room because I wanted to keep my dad company, to 3 delightful mornings savouring the beautiful breakfasts served by the ever helpful, ever cheerful Betty and all the great staff who complemented the great service provided by this more than 4 star hotel - everybody diligently provided the most fabulous service to make our three day stay a memorable one!! The hotel is a wondeful blend of old world charm and efficient service. The hotel itself is a period monument to times gone by when you could stay in a beautiful surround, with all of the comforts of home - we felt that we had been transported to days when hotels really offered the type of service that you do not see in modern day ireland. Food was superb and service was unsurpassed. Thank you everyone for a really great experience. If we are staying in Killarney again we will always stay here. The Arbutus is a hotel from another era ... elegant, warm and solid. The warm 'sit-down-and-let-me-get-you-a- cup-of-tea-with-brown-bread-and butter' welcome demonstrates the elegance of another age set in this small and older in-town hotel. Certain positioniong of the foot as you walk the staircase brings out a creak oof the solid wood in the construction. The real find Buckley's bar off the lobby ... especailly when the Irish music is playing. The loaction can't be beat either ... right in the center of town where there is still personality. Away from the tour bus hotels and traffic crowded areas. And leave your key at the front desk when you leave at night ... a throw back to another era for sure.

The hotel is situated in the downtown are a lot of cute shops/restaurants within walking distance. Free Parking (but about 3 blocks away from the hotel). No wifi in the room we stayed -so had to come to the lobby to access. Friendly receptionists. The basic breakfast (included in our rate) was pretty good. The room was very spacious. The bathroom was old but clean. It was a bit noisy as our room faced the bar parking lot. Overall good value. Could bring up Bailey's coffee from downstairs bar to our room.:)

The combination of customer service from Shawn and Betty, the super comfortable rooms, the adjacent Buckley Pub and the central location in Killarney made this the perfect spot for our visit. We had originally planned to stay three days but stayed five because we were having so much fun. Shawn offered truly valuable touring advice and everything you need is within easy walking distance. Convenience store is right across the street, great salon is one block away (cut & color!), the guys rented some bikes about a block away to tour the Irish National Park, we had a nice, easy walk to Ross Castle, and the Killarney Riding Stable will pick you up right at the front door. My husband and I had a very satisfying stay at the family run Arbutus Hotel in Killarney, Ireland. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and caring. Breakfast is great - the best scones we had in all of Ireland. Each room is uniguely furnished and very comfortable. The location is perfect - nearby the bus and train station if arriving without a car. Local transportation and tours, as well as nearby amenities, make a car totally unnecessary. We had a wonderful stay at the Arbutus doing our two night stay in Killarney. The location is great: in the center of town with lots of restaurant options close by. On the morning we were venturing out on a drive around the ring of Kerry, we asked the desk clerk for assistance in navigating our way out of town. He suggested that we veer off the ring for a visit to the Valencia Islands, explaining the best ways to get on the island (ferry) and off the island (bridge). This detour, turned out to be our favorite part of the trip! When we arrived in London, our next destination, we realized that we had left a scarf behind in our Arbutus hotel room. We email the hotel to ask if they found the scarf and, if so, could they return it to us at our expense. They had fndeed found the scarf and offered to send it to us at their expense which they promptly did. We received it just three days later!

We had the loveliest stay at the arbutus. A beautiful hotel itself, the arbutus is a minute's walk to all the best shops and pubs in Killarney. The staff is quite warm and could not be more helpful to the guests. One morning i slept in past breakfast (one too many Guinness next-door at Murphy's - fantastic place to see authentic live pub music btw) and the staff was so kind to make me a breakfast plate, wrap it and save it for when i awoke. The bar in the lobby has a lovely hearth and there was always a fellow companion to have a pint with. The rooms were quite clean and the beds were as comfy as could be. Even with the location on the street there was no noise at all from the road. If you are looking for a quiet clean and homely place to rest your head as you travel the Irish countryside, the Arbutus is certainly your best choice.

My three friends and I went for a once in a lifetime golf trip to ireland. We decided to stay in Killarny and not have to move every day to a new hotel. Wow we were happy that we stayed at the Arbutus. No staff at any hotel could have been nicer. We stayed for four nights. The rooms were great, very clean and comfortable. We of course had a great Irish breakfast each day. We always came back from golf and had a pint in Buckleys Pub in the hotel. Every request we had for service such as laundry or recommendations for dinner or to listen to irish music was fulfilled. On the last day we had to leave early and the staff so to it that we had a hot meal before we left. Betty O'Conner went out of her way to help us, feed us and make sure that we had everything we needed. Tadhg and Tomas in the bar were the best and Michelle and Joan at the front desk were quick, efficient and made you proud to be of irish descent. I would love to bring my family back here in the future.

If you are looking for the style, ambiance and courtesy of days gone by the Arbutus is just the place for you. The large rooms(by European standards) are furnished in lovely antiques with comfy beds and very well equipped bathrooms outfitted with plenty of space for your toiletries. The two lounges are wonderful places to relax in the evening and engage in interesting conversations with other guests. The staff could not do enough for their guests--no request was ignored and service was truly given with a smile. One feels part of the family while there. The Arbutus is a lovely, small hotel operated for the sole purpose of pleasing its guests! Thank you Sean and all for a wonderful Irish experience!
