"Wonderful stay!”"
Bdwyer Sep 15, 2009
We found this hotel on Trip Advisor and were so pleased with it! It is family owned and both they and the staff are wonderful. Our room was delightful, on the back of the hotel so absolutely no noise. The breakfasts are exceptional...French toast is the best I've ever eaten, and I order French toast often when out. Perfect location; right in the heart of the city.

Our stay was very enjoyable. Reception Ida was very welcoming. Bedroom was lovely, clean and spacious. Breakfast was served to order. Waitress Betty was a nice person and very helpful! As this was one of our many stays, I would recommend this hotel and in our opinion is one of the best.
The hotel is very warm and friendly.

The hotel is very quaint and has fabulous antique pieces. The food was wonderful and the scones were delicious. Betty is a terrific waitress. The only complaint I had was the beds were kind of hard.
"Perfect!!...."

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and it was a perfect choice. The hotel is so welcoming and the staff cannot do enough to make sure your stay is nothing short of perfect. The hotel is spotlessly clean, rooms very spacious and comfortable. The full Irish breakfast was freshly cooked to order and there was plenty of choice of cereal and fresh fruit, scones, cakes and bread. We had some very enjoyable evenings in Buckley’s Bar where the bar staff were very attentive and local musicians kept everyone entertained. The hotel is centrally located however we did not experience any noise from late night revellers.
"A Wonderful Break that did not gouge my wallet"
The Boston Kid, Boston, Massachusetts Sep 6, 2009
My family and I toured Ireland this August and loved our stay here at the Arbutus. We stayed in a mixture of B&B's, Hotels and even a Castle. This was the first time I have brought my whole family, however I have travelled to Ireland some 15 times in the past ten years. I say this only because I have stayed in some very bad hotels and B&B's. It was so nice to stay in a hotel that did not gouge my wallet yet provided me with such wonderful service, a clean and spacious room, and even some extras. The attached pub had live music where they allowed my nephew to stay a little past the normal "kids must go" time of 9:30. We will definitely be returning!

"Friendly And Personal Hotel"

Great hotel, with wonderful staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. Decor is homey and warm, with a fire going in the lobby fireplace to take the chill off the rainy day. We traveled with a 1 yr old baby and found the staff to be very helpful about highchairs, baby cots, restaurant recommendations, etc...all with a smile. Also connected to a wonderful pub - locals and travelers share pints alike. Trad music on the weekends which was a special treat. Definitely recommend!!!

This place is loaded with warmth, charm and great service. The staff is extremely helpful and eager to assist . The entire place is kept spotless. If you came to have a wonderful experience with a friendly atmosphere you've come to the right place. We came here by referral like so many others we spoke with during our stay.

We have been going to Killarney for thirty five years and have stayed in all the top hotels why it took so long to find this gem right in the middle of the town is beyond us The outside of this hotel is from days gone by yet fits beautifully into what Killarney is really all about when you walk through the door you fel at home rigrt away Its dark wood and beautiful furniture and the welcome from the receptionist you know you have entered somewhere special The rooms are big and bright and spotless clean with a bathroom big enough to sleep in We had dinner on our first night We knew we were on a winner when we entered the dining room there were two waitresses serving and the smile we were greeted with said it all WE both had the smoked ham and the lady who owns the hotel arrived with two extra slices i couldnt say no Breakfast the next morning was just as good I had the smoked salmon and scrambled bacon egg etc. We left the hotel after our two day stay wishing we had stayed another a few days but work calls The one thing we did carry with us to keep up our spirits up is the knoleadge that from now on we have found a home away from home when we again visit Killarney Sean and Maureen
"The Arbutus is clean, classy and well worth staying at"
Aug 25, 2009 | Trip type: Family: GeneralInspector, Ohio
We chose this hotel although it was slightly higher priced because we were going to be in Killarney for three days and use it as a base to tour the southwestern part of Ireland. The location was a good choice. When I arrived at Arbutus I got a warm greeting from the front desk. We got the room keys and went to see the rooms. We were shocked at the size, they were much larger than what we expected. The rooms are full of older furniture but everything is in good shape. I was so surprised that I returned to the front desk to make sure we had the right rooms. The front desk person (usually Michelle) was a source of quite a bit of help and knowledge. Not only did she help to arrange for personal tour of the Ring of Kerry but she helped us with meals and directions. One night we came in and were dead tired so she assisted in locating a pizza delivery place, then sent a full set of china and glasses to the room for us to eat on. Another night we came in exhausted again and not wanting to eat a large meal, she arranged for soup & sandwiches from the kitchen.
The Arbutus staff was very competent and friendly. The staff went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable. Betty seemed to be everywhere. She helped with breakfast, dinner and would do anything she could for us. We could not have done without Michelle or Betty. The Arbutus is clean, classy and well worth staying at

I arrived in the Arbutus Hotel in College St Killarney on Wed 19th August.I was met by Sean at front of house . He was friendly and welcoming. My room was comfortable clean and I slept very well both nights of my stay. Breakfast was an unmissable experience. Betty is simply a legend. Her warmness and hospitality was a tonic for the troops. She was ably helped by Vicky whose smile would light up a room.yes I will be back in Killarney because I know I will receive a warm welcome at The Arbutus.

“If Carlsberg Did Hotels They Would Be Like The Arbutus”

Decided on a last minute break to Killarney and checked with Tripadvisor and this hotel was # 3 so I went onto their site and got an excellent rate for mid week , we upgraded for a tenner extra each to a deluxe room, all I can say is wow what a hotel! We had travelled from Waterford and just wanted to park and get something to eat, well there is no parking at the hotel but literally 3 doors away is a car park (Not signed) where you pay 1 euro per hour, however just up the road is a 3 euro a day place but you can not stay overnight, so we parked there all day and just moved the car to the nearest place overnight, (No charge for overnight) all this info was passed on by the very friendly and welcoming receptionist. Room 229 was to die for, huge with a seperate seating area complete with fireplace and aircon and a fab bathroom. I wanted to live here it was so lovely. The bed must be 6 or 7 foot wide and really comfortable. The whole hotel has an air of bygone luxury and all the staff were wonderful. I can only assume that the management of this hotel puts great store in training and it really shows that the staff are happy in their work, we have never encountered such smiling helpful staff in every part of this hotel and it is spotless. It was a joy to have breakfast here, the full Irish was perfect, not a trace of grease and you could have your eggs any way you wanted, the scones as mentioned in a previous
review are delicious and Betty is there chatting to everyone and delivering great service with a team that I would poach in the morning if I had a hotel to run. All I can say is if Carlsberg did hotels they would be like the Arbutus. I cannot wait to go back.

We are living in Dungarvan, Co Waterford and make a trip once a year to visit beautiful Killarney. We always stay in the Arbutus Hotel and each time it makes our holiday. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. The rooms are great and the food is absolutely amazing. Best of all it is very competitively priced and the location is perfect, right in the heart of everything. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definately be back.

Let me declare my interest here: I worked with the Arbutus in developing their brand some five years ago and have kept in touch with Sean and his team since. I travel a good deal in my work (I'm based in Dublin) and stay in hotels across Ireland quite a bit. Very often the hotel-experience is a tiring one for the road-warrior; warm welcomes promised but not delivered, indifferent food in indifferent surroundings. Even when I have to travel a little bit further to stay with the Arbutus I do because I find they go a lot further to make you welcome. I love the house itself; walking into the lobby feels like a homecoming and there's always a friendly smile from behind the desk (even when there's someone there who doesn't know me from before). The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel itself is in a great place to explore the town. When you've been on the road all day it's great to get out and stretch your legs and I always get recommendations from the front-desk on where to eat that are bang-on. I stayed earlier in the week and found the usual warm welcome from everyone there. Breakfast continues to be a real highlight, real food served by real people (it's not for nothing that Betty is something of a legend; you'll find her name popping up in reviews on a regular basis). Judging from the remarks of others throughout the hotel during my stay, mine isn't an
unusual experience. I'm in a business where I can't afford to make referrals lightly.I warmly recommend the Arbutus Hotel to you and am sure you'll thank me for it.

We stayed three nights at the Arbutus and from the moment we arrived, to a welcoming cup of tea, to the moment we were helped to load out bags back into the car, our stay was very, very enjoyable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful both in reception and at breakfast. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed large and very comfortable. In short - perfection! Breakfast was a calm well organised start to the day with lots of choice and a good "full Irish". The "breakfast team" were attentive and friendly and like the rest of the staff we met, worked hard to make our visit enjoyable. The Arbutus is very close to the centre of Killarney and very convenient for shops, pubs and restaurants, most of which are no more than 5 minutes away. Parking is not an issue either as, although The Arbutus does not have it's own car park, there is a public car park (3 Euros per day) about 200 yards away and during our stay we always found plenty of spaces free. If you are staying in Killarney I would recommend The Arbutus 100% it's a hotel that just has that something extra to make your stay happy, comfortable and problem free.
“This Hotel Was By Far Our Favourite”

We loved this hotel! We traveled on a CIE tour with our teenage children and this hotel was by far our favorite. It is decorated with antiques and each room is different. The food in the dining room was outstanding only to be surpassed by the service. We really felt that we were catered too. We especially liked that the rooms had "American" sheets rather than just a duvet. This might seem picky but it was summer and of course, there was no A/C, so it was nice not to be smothered. Also the breakfast was by far the best we had in Ireland. The scones and jam were to die for. We were greeted when we arrived in the afternoon with scones, fairy cakes and tea -which totally set the tone for our two night stay there. I would highly recommend this hotel because you really feel like you are in someplace special rather than just another boring old hotel that you can find anywhere.
“Best Value Of Any Hotel We Stayed At During Our Vacation In Ireland”
Devilfan New York Jul 19, 2009
This was the best value of any hotel we stayed at during our vacation in Ireland. The hotel is downtown and within walking distance to dozens of restaurants, shops, and pubs. The staff was very friendly and made us feel right at home. The breakfast that was included was excellent and the server took great care to ensure we had everything we needed or wanted. Free WiFi in the lobby was included and the attached pub was
full of locals. We had a great time hoisting a few with them one evening. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Loved Arbutus...some of our family members have returned again and again. Charming property located conveniently in central Killarney. Within walking distance of all points of interest. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Our room was spacious and clean. We'll go back for sure!

This was a really nice hotel with wonderful character. Our room was really nice and spacious. The breakfast was ok..but I got the feeling that the breads, scones, fruit cheeses and cereals were there all week. It tasted and felt it a bit like the previous mornings breakfast..not so fresh. But the first morning I ordered a Full Irish - that was fine. I reccomend that you get something off the menu as that will guarnatee its freshness. The location could not be better, right on one of the main streets. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. There was no parking but there was cheap parking just up the street and it was stress free. Even though the hotel was central, it was not noisy at all. I would definitely stay here again. I really like this hotel. Its a real Gem. |
